Curriculum

The curriculum, at Bedwas, is designed to provide all pupils with a full and rich learning experience which is appropriate to their needs. It is organised and presented to pupils and parents in such a way that it is equally varied and accessible to all.

Core and foundation subjects, at Key Stage 3, are supplemented with courses in RE, Drama and PSE.

At Key Stage 4, all pupils study a core of English (including English Literature), Mathematics, Science, Welsh, Physical Education Religious Studies and PSE (including Careers). In addition, all pupils have equal access to choose a further FOUR subjects offered in our option structure. The options contain academic and vocational courses. Pupils also study short course GCSEs in PSE and the majority of pupils are entered for at the end of Year 10.

All pupils at Key Stage 4 follow Level 2 courses. We also offer vocational courses involving the local Further Education college.

We operate an open entry policy for pupils returning to the sixth form where AS and A Levels are available in a wide range of areas. We work in a consortium with two other comprehensive schools in the Caerphilly Basin and local colleges of F.E. to enhance the range of courses we offer at post-16.  Vocational Level 2 courses are offered in three areas – Sports, Health & Social Care and Engineering where students can also resit GCSE English, Maths and ICT.
